Unique tool enables insurers and MGAs to analyze and perform ‘what if’ re-rates to understand current books of business and potential impact of changes

ORLANDO, FL–May 23, 2005

At the ACORD/LOMA Insurance Systems Forum, Decision Research Corporation today introduced RateMaker Analyzer. RateMaker Analyzer will be offered as an optional add-on tool for Decision Research’s V1STA RateMaker solution or as a standalone utility. The unique RateMaker Analyzer tool enables insurers and MGAs to fully analyze their current books of business and perform ‘what if’ tests of rate changes to determine the potential impact on their business.

RateMaker Analyzer will be available with the release of Microsoft’s SQL Server 2005.

With RateMaker Analyzer, insurers and MGAs are able to conduct impact assessments on their book of business and study the affect of change on revenue, determine risks based on demographics, and utilize elasticity modeling to better understand retention of their current business.

"Decision Research's software solutions such as RateMaker, combined with the analysis and reporting services of SQL Server 2005, enables them to offer a set of unique and powerful decision-support experiences for their customers. This example of business-process innovation leveraging unique features of the Microsoft platform is why Decision Research is an important member of our Insurance Value Chain." says Kevin S. Kelly, Managing Director - U.S. Insurance Industry, Microsoft Corporation.

Karen Yamamoto, vice president of product development at Decision Research, commented, “RateMaker Analyzer is just the latest deliverable in our continuing effort and commitment to help our clients to enhance their rate program design and roll-out process. With RateMaker, we have already simplified the IT portion of the complex and regulatory burdened rating process. Now, with RateMaker Analyzer, we’re offering a comparable streamlined and simple approach to the actuarial side of creating new rate programs.”

RateMaker Analyzer highlights include:

  • Quickly re-rate an entire book of business or a selected segment
  • Compare two books of business
  • Demonstrate the impact of rate plan changes through business intelligence views
  • Examine the demographics of your business by territory, age, sex, marital status, vehicle make, model symbol, agent, or any other factor.
  • Leverages Microsoft’s SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence features: filtering, 3-dimensional modeling (data cube) and reporting

RateMaker Analyzer might be used to…

  • Discover rate inadequacies and redundancies in a new rate plan
  • Discover hidden rate spikes in profitable demographic groups
  • Determine segments that may be impacted (positively or negatively) by potential rate changes

“Decision Research’s RateMaker Analyzer solution is exactly what we had in mind when we created the Microsoft experience Insurance initiative - it is a solution that is helping to transform how the insurance industry works,” said Kevin Kelly, managing director of Insurance for Microsoft’s Financial Services Group. “RateMaker is engineered to help fight complexity, allowing insurance companies to spend less time managing infrastructure and more time delivering results.”
